Sita, consort of Shri Ram, had not only to undergo 14 years of exile soon after her marriage, but also the indiginity of being kidnapped by the ten headed Ravan. On their triumphant return to Ayodhya, when his people cast aspersions on Sita, Shri Ram, bowing to thier wishes, banished Sita. Alone, she sought refuge with Rishi Valmiki. There she gave birth to twin sons, Lav and Kush. Weaned on the puranas and the sagas of heroism, the twins grew up to the strapping youths.
