A film rather typical of its times, it has a good elder son, distinctly in the Ram mould, bringing up his younger ste brothers and taking care of his mother. The idyllic life is disturbed when one of the step brothers does not like the straitjacket life and brings in a wife from the big city.

Depicted as a shrew, she tries her best to sow discord amongst the family members, but truth fianlly prevails. The film however is dominated by the courtship scenes between Khanna and Mumtaz, which included the famous song, Bindiya Chamkegi.
